‘The Help’ Fights Off Sharks, Spies and Aliens: Box Office Report September 2-5

Filed under: Movie News , Box Office , Summer Movies , New Releases Aptly, moviegoers celebrated Labor Day weekend by watching a film about underappreciated household workers. For the third straight weekend, period dramedy ‘The Help’ was the top movie at the box office, ending the summer season by fending off three more action-packed newcomers: ‘The Debt,’ ‘Apollo 18′ and ‘Shark Night 3D.’ From Friday to Sunday, ‘The Help’ earned an estimated $14.2 million, a microscopic dip of just 2 percent from last weekend. That’s almost unprecedented for a movie in its fourth week of release

When Did America Develop Better Taste in Movies Than the Rest of the World?

Filed under: Features , Hot Topic , Box Office , Summer Movies If you live in America, you probably didn’t see ‘Mr. Popper’s Penguins.’ Jim Carrey’s tepidly-reviewed summer comedy earned just $67 million in theaters here, well below average for the veteran film funnyman. Yet, as the Los Angeles Times notes, it’s earned more than $100 million overseas, doing especially well in Britain and Belgium, and it’s far from being played out

Michael Moore Thinks Matt Damon Is Presidential Material

0

Filed under: Celebrity Interviews , Movie News , Summer Movies After recently going off on an misinformed cameraman about America’s broken school system, equating Sarah Palin’s Vice Presidential run to a ” really bad Disney movie ” during the 2008 Presidential campaign, and outwardly expressing that he ” no longer hope(s) for audacity ” in light of Barack Obama’s disappointing tenure as President (a President he once voted for), we think it’s safe to say that Matt Damon has been doing a bang-up job of disproving his dumb-as-rocks puppet persona in ‘Team America: World Police’ as of late. Being that he seems more well-informed than most actual politicians about some of the heated topics facing the country, not only are we increasingly impressed by what’s been coming out of Damon’s mouth over the past few years, but so is controversial, Oscar-winning director Michael Moore.
